Thai style shrimp balls

ingredients of the meatballs
500 g (1 lb.) fresh shrimp, peeled, deveined, and coarsely chopped
2 cloves of garlic, finely chopped
5 ml (1 teaspoon) fresh ginger, finely grated
1 chopped green onion
15 ml (1 tablespoon) fresh coriander, chopped
5 ml (1 teaspoon) chili flakes
5 ml (1 teaspoon) brown sugar
5 ml (1 teaspoon) fish sauce
1 beaten egg
10 ml (2 teaspoons) cornstarch


Ingredients for the sauce
 20 ml (4 teaspoons) sambal oelek (chili sauce for chicken) about 1/2 cup
30 ml (2 tablespoons) seasoned rice vinegar
15 ml (1 tablespoon) mirin
10 ml (2 teaspoons) soy sauce
10 ml (2 teaspoons) water

Preparation
1) Using a food processor, grind shrimp, garlic, ginger, green onion, cilantro, chili flakes, brown sugar, fish sauce, egg, and cornstarch. Place shrimp paste in a bowl and refrigerate for 1 hour.

2) Prepare the chili sauce. In a small bowl, mix all the ingredients. Set aside.

3) Preheat the barbecue and oil the grill.

4) Using your hands, shape the shrimp dough into balls about 4 cm (1 1/2 in) in diameter. Grill the dumplings for 1 to 2 minutes on each side.

5) Thread dumplings onto 4 wooden skewers and serve with chili sauce.
