Chinese style honey chicken


½ kilo of chicken breast cut in large cubes
1 ½ cup flour
1 cup melted butter
½ cup olive oil

For the sauce

1 tablespoon cornstarch
½ cup honey
2 tablespoons soy sauce
1 tablespoon apple cider vinegar
1 teaspoon sesame oil
½ teaspoon red bell pepper (for garnish)

Chinese food is recognized as one of the best in the world. Why? Many of its dishes combine the four flavors perceived by the palate: bitter, sour, sweet, and salty, creating a very pleasant balance on the palate. We prepare a recipe of chicken with Chinese style honey to have the flavors of this great culinary tradition in our kitchen.

1. In a large skillet heat the vegetable oil. In a bowl place the flour and, cube by cube of chicken, dredge it first in the butter and then in the flour to bread it.

2. When the oil is hot, add the breaded cubes and cook until golden brown and crispy on all sides. Transfer them to a kitchen towel to absorb the excess oil.

3. In a small bowl, mix the cornstarch with 1 tablespoon of water and set aside. In a small saucepan, combine honey, soy sauce, apple cider vinegar, sesame oil, and paprika and cook over medium heat. Bring to a boil before lowering the heat and stir in the cornstarch mixture until thickened and incorporated.

4. Serve over steamed rice or cooked Chinese noodles.

Garnish with more paprika or chopped scallions for a fresh touch.
